Our Golden SPARKLING Cider is made only from the Apples grown here at Kenton Park Estate & fermented in our on-site Winery Building.
The Pheasant illustration for HARD CORE Cider was created because of the many Pheasants living on the Estate. They all have their own humorous characteristics & have been chosen as the “Brand Ambassadors” for our Wines, Cider, Apple Juice, Coffee & also our Olive Oil, Honey and Candle collection.
“Remy” was chosen as the perfect pheasant character to represent the HARDCORE Cider Brand as he spends his days strutting around the Apple Orchard with more than one female Pheasant in pursuit and has a distinct dare-devilish air about him.
Due to “Remy” being such a success as the “Face” of our First Cider Vintage, he will be joining the HARD CORE ADVENTURE TEAM on their Trail Blaze Motorbike Tour through South America as their Brand Mascot.
HOW IT ALL STARTED …..
Following a Rugby injury and broken bones in his hand, our eldest son Ben was forced to wear a plaster cast for 6 weeks – real torture for a professional Rugby player!
During one afternoon at home whilst recovering and feeling frustrated, Ben was aimlessly kicking a ball around outside when he stumbled into the old Apple Orchard on the Estate and was amazed at the incredible number of apples lying on the ground.
The Orchard was full of Pheasants who were no doubt in hiding as it was the start of the Shooting Season.
Ben suddenly hit upon the idea to see if he could find a mobile Apple Pressing company to come and press the Apples here in the Orchard. He started filling as many old hessian Coffee Bean Sacks as possible and managed to drag a few Oak Wine Barrels from the Winery Building - a lengthy process when you've only got one arm! It took him over a week to collect all the Apples.
However help was at hand in the form of Ben's infamous Brother, Josh, who coincidentally was also at home that exact same week recovering from concussion during a Rugby Match. So the Brothers teamed up to work together whilst Ben hatched his plans to make great Cider for the Estate.
Left to ferment for several months, the resulting golden Sparkling Cider has been created and the Brand "HARDCORE Cider" came to life, using of course, the image of the Pheasants living here harmoniously on the Estate in the old Apple Orchard.
The Brothers continue to collaborate and have now launched their own Bar in the Winery Building "THE MOTLEY CRU" [motleycru.co.uk] where you can join them to try some of their amazing Cider Cocktails and enjoy talking about Rugby!
Both Ben & Josh are also continuing their respective Rugby careers.
